Account of a Buddhist Friend’s Response to a Christian Prayer

with one comment

One day, my non-Christian friend was disconsolate and crying in bed, unwilling to get up to go to school to take a test paper. Her Christian father said a prayer for her as she was crying in bed, and she responded positively to his prayer by getting out of bed, having recovered from her sudden breakdown.

How is it possible that non-Christians can actually respond positively to a Christian’s prayers? Does it actually mean that deities exist? Or is there something else which made her react the way she did?

While of course I do not know exactly what my friend experienced during her apparent breakdown, and her subsequent recovery from it, non-believers may very well behave positively to prayers made in their name, and within their earshot.

The two videos below show prominent atheist and mentalist Derren Brown converting a room full of skeptics into Christianity, using non-supernatural methods. All the people whom he converted into Christians in this video clip were subsequently de-converted.

Part I:

Part II:

In short, a positive reaction to prayer does not necessarily prove the existence of one or more gods.

  1. haha… interesting statement… it depends on what you assume a Christian to be.
